{"id":7421,"date":"2019-03-27T12:01:46","date_gmt":"2019-03-27T18:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/margie\/?p=7421"},"modified":"2019-03-27T12:01:46","modified_gmt":"2019-03-27T18:01:46","slug":"date-and-walnut-phyllo-rolls-with-greek-yogurt-and-honey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/margie\/date-and-walnut-phyllo-rolls-with-greek-yogurt-and-honey.html","title":{"rendered":"Date and Walnut Phyllo Rolls with Greek Yogurt and Honey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>You know Bon Appetite &#8211; must be fancy!\u00a0 You can use any dates (buy the\u00a0 pitted for heaven&#8217;s sake) and any honey.\u00a0 If you are putting these on a tray with other filo dough goodies, cut them into 2 inch pieces.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>14 oz Medjool dates (about 1 1\/2 cups), pitted<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c walnuts, toasted<\/li>\n<li>3 Tab plus 1\/4 cup Greek honey or other honey<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp finely grated orange peel<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp cardamom seeds (from about 10 pods), finely ground in spice mill or in mortar with pestle (Really? Use 1\/4 tsp of the already ground stuff!)<\/li>\n<li>20\u00a0 sheets fresh phyllo pastry or frozen, thawed (1\/2 a package)<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted<\/li>\n<li>1 c Greek whole-milk yogurt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Combine dates, walnuts, 3 tablespoons honey, orange peel, and cardamom in processor.<\/li>\n<li>Blend until paste forms.<\/li>\n<li>Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.<\/li>\n<li>Line rimmed baking sheet with parchment.<\/li>\n<li>Cover phyllo stack with plastic wrap, then damp kitchen towel.<\/li>\n<li>Remove 1 phyllo sheet from stack and place on work surface.<\/li>\n<li>Brush with melted butter.<\/li>\n<li>Top with second sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Brush with butter.<\/li>\n<li>Starting 1 inch from edge at short end of phyllo, spoon 3 tablespoons date mixture in dollops in row parallel to edge.<\/li>\n<li>Mold date mixture into log, leaving 1\/2-inch border at edges of phyllo.<\/li>\n<li>Roll up date log in phyllo, enclosing filling and forming roll (filling will be exposed at ends).<\/li>\n<li>Transfer to baking sheet; brush with butter.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat with remaining phyllo, butter, and date mixture.<\/li>\n<li>Bake until golden, about 23 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Cool on baking sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Spoon yogurt into small bowl (or 10 individual bowls).<\/li>\n<li>Drizzle remaining 1\/4 cup honey over yogurt.<\/li>\n<li>Place 1 phyllo roll on each plate.
