It\u2019s a great cake to make ahead because it will keep well covered and at room temperature.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t hurt to top it with whipped cream or ice cream.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cake Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 c light olive oil<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6 eggs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 c whole milk<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 c sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 c all purpose flour<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4 tsp baking powder<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 tsp baking soda<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 tsp ground cinnamon<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1\/4 tsp ground cloves<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1\/4 tsp salt<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 and 1\/2 c coarsely ground walnuts plus 1 tablespoon flour\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cake Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preheat the oven to 350\u00b0.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Butter the bottom and sides of a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beat the eggs and sugar together for a few minutes until thick and pale. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add the olive oil and milk. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beat well to incorporate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground cloves and salt. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slowly add them to the egg mixture while gently whisking just until incorporated and most of the batter is smooth. Do not over mix! Otherwise your cake will not be light and fluffy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Combine the ground walnuts with the tablespoon of flour and mix it. This will prevent the walnuts from sinking to the bottom of the cake.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fold in the walnuts gently with a spatula.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pour the batter in the already prepared baking dish.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bake it for about 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Honey Syrup Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 c sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 c honey (measure your honey after measuring the oil for the cake. Doing this makes the honey slide out of the measuring cup much easier.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3 c water<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1\/4 tsp whole cloves<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 cinnamon stick<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Syrup Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the cake is baking, prepare the honey syrup.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Combine all of the ingredients into a saucepan. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bring it to a boil while stirring. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let it continue to cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes until very slightly thickened. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turn off the heat and allow the syrup to cool completely before removing the cloves and cinnamon stick.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As soon as the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poke it all over with a toothpick. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pour all of the cooled honey syrup over the cake slowly, allowing it to be absorbed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Garnish Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1\/2 c ground walnuts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 tsp powdered sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a pinch of ground cloves<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bc tsp ground cinnamon<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Garnish Directions:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Combine the walnuts with the powdered sugar, cinnamon and cloves.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sprinkle over the cake to garnish.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enjoy!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Serves:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>8 -12<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Dimitra&#8217;s Dishes via Cathy Painter, Allison Paintaer<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karidopita\u00a0(kah-ree-THOH-pee-tah) is a moist and flavorful walnut\u00a0cake\u00a0that is flavored with cinnamon and bathed in sweet syrup.
