{"id":10414,"date":"2007-01-24T11:52:04","date_gmt":"2007-01-24T18:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2007\/01\/24\/reducing-server-load.html"},"modified":"2007-01-24T11:52:04","modified_gmt":"2007-01-24T18:52:04","slug":"reducing_server_load","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2007\/01\/24\/reducing_server_load.html","title":{"rendered":"Reducing server load"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Got an e-mail from the good people at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hostmatters.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hosting Matters<\/a> over the weekend that comment spam activities on my blog were causing some significant server hits, with suggestions on what to do about it.<\/p>\n<p>I already run <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.thought-mesh.net\/solidwallofcode\/mt_projects\/autoban.php\" target=\"_blank\">AutoBan<\/a>, a fine MT plug-in that, as soon a someone files a comment identified as &#8220;junk&#8221; throws up a temporary IP blog for the page, preventing them from trying again (with trivial load on the servers in so doing, unlike most of the other anti-spam solutions).  Granted, IP addresses can be spoofed, but it&#8217;s at least some help against some comment spammers.<\/p>\n<p>There was also a suggestion to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.learningmovabletype.com\/archives\/001554commentscgi_and_server_loads.php\" target=\"_blank\">fix the way comments.cgi is invoked by TypeKey-enabled blogs<\/a> (like this one).
