After taking an appalling amount of heat for deciding to use his<\/em> holy book — the Koran — to swear on<\/a> in a private ceremony upon taking the oath of office as a Congressman, Rep. Keith Ellison has manage to out-patriot his critics by choosing to swear on a Koran owned by Thomas Jefferson<\/a> and sold to the
\nLibrary of Congress when TJ was running more short of funds than he usually was. The idea being that even the ostensible uber-Christian-Patriots will give pause before criticizing someone for swearing on a book owned by Thomas Jefferson.<\/p>\n

Of course, if they knew much about Jefferson’s opinions on religion<\/a> and, more specifically, the Bible<\/a>, they might find new reasons to object …<\/p>\n
