{"id":10730,"date":"2007-07-09T13:57:24","date_gmt":"2007-07-09T20:57:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2007\/07\/09\/the-political-compass.html"},"modified":"2007-07-09T13:57:24","modified_gmt":"2007-07-09T20:57:24","slug":"the_political_compass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2007\/07\/09\/the_political_compass.html","title":{"rendered":"The Political Compass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boulderdude.com\/2007\/07\/physical_political_mappage.html\" target=\"_blank\">BD pointed<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/politicalcompass.org\/test\" target=\"_blank\">the Political Compass test<\/a> again, so I thought I&#8217;d re-take it and see how I was doing.&nbsp; The Political Compass graphs out socio-political philosophies along two axes, rather than the traditional Left\/Right.<\/p>\n<p>My current score is<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economic Left\/Right: -3.00<br \/> Social Libertarian\/Authoritarian: -4.00<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I.e., I am more on the&nbsp;Economic Left than Right (more Collectivist\/Communist than Neo-Liberal\/Libertarian), and significantly more on the Libertarian (Anarchic) aide of things than Authoritarian (Fascist) when it comes to personal liberties.&nbsp; I&#8217;d be on the &#8220;Libertarian Left,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the US Primaries, that puts me <a href=\"http:\/\/politicalcompass.org\/usprimaries2007\" target=\"_blank\">way out of sync with all the candidates<\/a> except Dennis Kucinich (ick), which might explain why I&#8217;m not happy with most of the choices, or may indicate the test isn&#8217;t all that accurate.&nbsp; (Or it may indicate that candidates tend to pander a bit to the populace, which I suspect is much less social libertarian than I am, and to big business contributors, who would be more inclined toward economic neo-liberalism.)<\/p>\n<p>But is it consistent?&nbsp; Here are the other times I&#8217;ve taken it:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2001\/12\/07\/okay_heres_a_re.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dec. 2001<\/a>:&nbsp; -1.13, -3.13<br \/> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2003\/05\/27\/axis_to_grind.html\" target=\"_blank\">May 2003<\/a>: -2.13, -3.54<br \/> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2004\/08\/30\/calibration.html\" target=\"_blank\">Aug. 2004<\/a>: -0.75, -3.13<br \/> Jul. 2007: -3.00, -4.00<\/p>\n<p>Well, I&#8217;m definitely in the fairly-social-libertarian side of things, and waver a bit on economics, but remain somewhat on the left (which still doesn&#8217;t feel quite right, so to speak).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Is the test &#8220;accurate,&#8221; whatever that means?&nbsp; There were more than a few questions where I dug into the nuances of the exact wording probably beyond where it made sense, so there&#8217;s some room for doubt.&nbsp; Guess I&#8217;ll check back in a couple of years and see &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BD pointed to the Political Compass test again, so I thought I&#8217;d re-take it and see how I was doing.&nbsp; The Political Compass graphs out socio-political philosophies along two axes,&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","_seopress_titles_title":"","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":"","_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[54,31,9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10730","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-elections-2008","category-personality-tests","category-politics-law"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":217,"url":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2003\/05\/27\/axis_to_grind.html","url_meta":{"origin":10730,"position":0},"title":"Axis to grind","author":"***Dave","date":"Tue 27-May-03 12:32pm","format":false,"excerpt":"Scott reminds me of this test to chart out your \"political compass\" -- where you lie on the economic left\/right and the authoritarian\/libertarian scale.
