{"id":10832,"date":"2007-06-20T20:07:49","date_gmt":"2007-06-21T03:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2007\/06\/20\/comfort-media.html"},"modified":"2007-06-20T20:07:49","modified_gmt":"2007-06-21T03:07:49","slug":"comfort_media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2007\/06\/20\/comfort_media.html","title":{"rendered":"Comfort media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Re-reading\/watching a number of things this week.<\/p>\n<p>Reading <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/034530988X?&#038;tag=davedoesthebl-20\" target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Click here to go to Amazon\">Friday<\/a> <\/em>at work.&nbsp; One of my favorite later Heinlein novels.&nbsp; Improbable coincidences, politics on its sleeve, polemical setting, and incredibly sexy, independent, and intelligent\/competent women-folk.&nbsp; What&#8217;s not to love?<\/p>\n<p>Reading the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1841490075?&#038;tag=davedoesthebl-20\" target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Click here to go to Amazon\">Sten<\/a> <\/em>novels at home.&nbsp; One of the earliest of the modern &#8220;military SF&#8221; series, and damn fine.&nbsp; Coincidentally, the first book is a blend of Heinlein&#8217;s <em>The Moon&nbsp;is a Harsh Mistress <\/em>and <em>Starship Troopers<\/em>, but with a hearty dollop of cynicism (and with a metaplot that&#8217;s only really revealed in the afterword of the last volume).&nbsp; I&#8217;ve read this series probably a dozen times, and I enjoy it anew each time.<\/p>\n<p>And Katherine&#8217;s watching&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00005JNX0?&#038;tag=davedoesthebl-20\" target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Click here to go to Amazon\"><em>Madagascar<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>on the DVD, which is a much more enjoyable and even profound a film than I had any sense of in its early commercials.&nbsp; And the Penguins &#8220;Christmas Caper&#8221; bonus track is just cream cheese frosting on the cake.<\/p>\n<p>I read a fair amount of new stuff, but I do like to re-enjoy the old stuff, too.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/034530988X?&#038;tag=davedoesthebl-20\" target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Click here to go to Amazon\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Friday\" src=\"http:\/\/images.amazon.com\/images\/P\/034530988X.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1841490075?&#038;tag=davedoesthebl-20\" target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Click here to go to Amazon\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Sten\" src=\"http:\/\/images.amazon.com\/images\/P\/1841490075.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00005JNX0?&#038;tag=davedoesthebl-20\" target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Click here to go to Amazon\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Madagascar\" src=\"http:\/\/images.amazon.com\/images\/P\/B00005JNX0.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Re-reading\/watching a number of things this week.
