{"id":10970,"date":"2007-05-05T11:05:24","date_gmt":"2007-05-05T18:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2007\/05\/05\/my-firefox-extensions.html"},"modified":"2007-05-05T11:05:24","modified_gmt":"2007-05-05T18:05:24","slug":"my_firefox_extensions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2007\/05\/05\/my_firefox_extensions.html","title":{"rendered":"My Firefox extensions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Got an IM from Amanda last evening asking about an updated Extensions list for my FF installation.&nbsp; It has been a while.&nbsp; Here&#8217;s the list &#8212; the <strong>must haves <\/strong>are in bold.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <a title=\"Ads were yesterday!\" href=\"http:\/\/adblockplus.org\/\"><strong>Adblock Plus<\/strong><\/a> 0.7.5.1:&nbsp; Faboo tool for blocking banner ads and other ad images and spaces on web pages.&nbsp; I get wildly spoiled by this, and it&#8217;s often a shock when I go onto the web on IE and see how many ads there are on pages I visit all the time.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"A convenient way to add bookmarks.\" href=\"http:\/\/gorgias.de\/mfe\/\">Add Bookmark Here<\/a> 0.5.5:&nbsp; Makes it easy to add bookmarks within the bookmark menu.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Allows the use of Roboform in Firefox.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.roboform.com\">AI <strong>Roboform <\/strong>Toolbar for Firefox<\/a> 6.9.2:&nbsp; Roboform stores passwords and form info (e.g. on credit card or shipping forms online).&nbsp; Saves me hours every week.&nbsp; Works with IE by default, with FF with a plug-in.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Bookmarks Synchronizer is a Mozilla Firefox extension that let you connect to an FTP\/WebDAV server and synchronize your bookmarks that are stored in an XML file. Setup is easy: just write in your FTP\/WebDAV server address, username, password and a name for the XML file (by default called xbel.xml). To start, press Upload to create the file on the server and set if you want to automatically download the file on startup or upload it when you close your browser.\" href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/extensions\/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&amp;id=14\">Bookmarks Synchronizer<\/a> 1.03:&nbsp; Backs up my bookmarks online, on the off chance my machine crashes.&nbsp; Not sure if I&#8217;m going to keep this &#8212; what I really need to do is take a couple of days and clean out my oversized bookmark file.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Bypass compulsory web registration with the context menu via www.bugmenot.com.\" href=\"http:\/\/roachfiend.com\">BugMeNot<\/a> 1.3:&nbsp; Public helper application to fill in dummy login\/passwords for &#8220;free registration required&#8221; sites.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"A User Profile Editor Plus... Open The Chrome, Profile, &amp; Install Folders. Open The File Manager. Restart Firefox. Support For The userChrome JS Extension.\" href=\"http:\/\/webdesigns.ms11.net\/chromeditp.html\">ChromEdit Plus<\/a> 2.6.2:&nbsp; Makes it easier to update FF config files.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Save frequently-entered text for pasting later.\" href=\"http:\/\/clippings.mozdev.org\/\">Clippings<\/a> 2.6:&nbsp; Create a library of cut-and-paste blocks for use in Web forms.&nbsp; A handy way to help if you blog just through the online blog client.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"The mass downloader for Firefox.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.downthemall.net\">DownThemAll!<\/a> 0.9.9.8:&nbsp; A nice tool for doing mass download of files (esp. by type &#8212; graphics vs videos vs music, etc.)<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Provides the option to copy selection as plain text or html.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ryanscook.com\">Extended Copy Menu<\/a> 1.3:&nbsp; Nice tool that will let you, in context, copy a block of text from a web page with or without HTML formatting.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"FTP Client for Mozilla Firefox.\" href=\"http:\/\/fireftp.mozdev.org\">FireFTP<\/a> 0.96.4:&nbsp; Free FTP client that works through FF.&nbsp; Not the most spectacular FTP client out there, but it works pretty well.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Replaces Flash objects with a button you can click to view them.\" href=\"http:\/\/flashblock.mozdev.org\/\"><strong>Flashblock<\/strong><\/a> 1.5.3:&nbsp; Any Flash that gets opened from a web page needs a click on it before it can play.&nbsp; Great way to avoid Flash ads.&nbsp; You can also whitelist regularly visited sites that use Flash for menus (bleah).<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Get international weather forecasts and display it in any toolbar or statusbar with this highly customizable extension.\" href=\"http:\/\/forecastfox.mozdev.org\/\">Forecastfox<\/a> 0.9.5.2:&nbsp; Put an Accuweather forecast at the bottom of the window.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Display the google pagerank in your browser's status bar.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tapouillo.com\/firefox_extension\/\">Google Pagerank Status<\/a> 0.9.7:&nbsp; Put a little PR bar at the bottom of the window for each page you visit.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Cut down version of IE View by Paul Roub.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.graysonmixon.com\/extension\/\"><strong>IE View Lite<\/strong><\/a> 1.3:&nbsp; Want to see how a site looks in IE?&nbsp; Got sites that you need to automatically open in IE only?&nbsp; Here&#8217;s the tool to do it.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Generates <img> tags&#8221; href=&#8221;http:\/\/kostecki.net\/fb\/&#8221;><strong>ImgTag<\/strong><\/a> 0.3.3:&nbsp; Rightclick on an image and create a pastable HTML img block for it.&nbsp; Nice.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Outputs an alphabetical list of extensions to a text, vB code, or HTML file.\" href=\"http:\/\/roachfiend.com\">ListZilla<\/a> 0.8:&nbsp; Export a list of all your FF add-ons\/extensions to a text or HTML file.&nbsp; Made preparing this list a lot easier, I&#8217;ll tell you.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Adds a toolbar button to Open Print Preview.\" href=\"http:\/\/testomoz.org\/tbutton\/\">Print Preview Toolbar Button<\/a> 0.1:&nbsp; Not the greatest toolbar button, but it fills in an annoying FF gap.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Resize HTML form fields, including textareas, select boxes, and text fields.\" href=\"http:\/\/justinsomnia.org\/2006\/10\/resizeable-form-fields-for-firefox\/\"><strong>Resizeable Form Fields<\/strong><\/a> 0.2.1:&nbsp; Stretch a form field larger (or smaller) for easier entry.&nbsp; Faboo!<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Captures images, scrolling web pages and more right from Firefox!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.techsmith.com\/redirect.asp?product=snagit&amp;lang=enu&amp;target=powertoyfirefoxhome\">SnagIt Firefox Extension<\/a> 1.0.1:&nbsp; I use SnagIt for image captures (actual image files, or screen caps).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Tab browsing with an added boost.\" href=\"http:\/\/tmp.garyr.net\"><strong>Tab Mix Plus<\/strong><\/a> 0.3.5.2:&nbsp; Extends FF&#8217;s tab controls and behaviors.&nbsp; Excellent tool.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Sends information about program crashes to Mozilla.\" href=\"http:\/\/talkback.mozilla.org\/\">Talkback<\/a> 2.0.0.3:&nbsp;
