Good for Mother Earth!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-shadow-right\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"WIDTH: 100px; HEIGHT: 126px\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/images\/beer1.jpg\" \/> <\/div>\n<p>Fosters is teaming up with scientists to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/Wire\/18624\/\" target=\"_blank\">generate clean energy from the brewing process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The experimental technology was unveiled Wednesday by scientists at Australia&#8217;s University of Queensland, which was given a 140,000 Australian dollar (US$115,000; euro85,000) state government grant to install a microbial fuel cell at a Foster&#8217;s Group brewery near Brisbane, the capital of Queensland state.<\/p>\n<p>The fuel cell is essentially a battery in which bacteria consume water-soluble brewing waste such as sugar, starch and alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>The battery produces electricity plus clean water, said Prof. Jurg Keller, the university&#8217;s wastewater expert.<\/p>\n<p>The complex technology harnesses the chemical energy that the bacteria releases from the organic material, converting it into electrical energy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cheers!<\/p>\n<p><small><\/p>\n<p>(via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.decrepitoldfool.com\/index.php\/weblog\/beer_may07\/\" target=\"_blank\">DOF<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fosters is teaming up with scientists to generate clean energy from the brewing process.
