When Marvel, Tribune Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment were first sued by 20th Century Fox over the new Mutant X<\/i><\/a> TV show (“No, it’s really not about the X-Men. Really!”), <\/i>there was concern expressed by the plaintiff that it was going to dilute the audience for its (so far successful) movie franchise.<\/p>\n

The Tribune website expresses, most vehemently, We want you to know that MUTANT_X is not based on the “X-Men” property and is not in any way related to, licensed or approved by, or associated with the motion picture “X-Men” or Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.<\/i><\/p>\n

It seems to have made little difference anyway. WGN is running it at 4 p.m. CDT on Saturdays. The local WB station is running it at Noon on Sundays. Neither is what I’d call a “hot” time slot. I predict imminent vanishing, alongside Cleopatra 2020<\/i>.<\/p>\n

We watched the WGN play. Not a bad show. Not a good show. A definite C+, and deserving of its time slots (comparable to The Lost World<\/i> and The Beast Master<\/i>, for example, in sophistication and<\/i> time slot).<\/p>\n

I find it mildly depressing that sf makes for bad TV as well as good, and in pretty good obedience to Sturgeon’s Law.<\/p>\n
