When I first visited out in the Denver area in late ’94 in order to learn more about my job-to-be, one of the offices that was going to consolidate downtown was out here in Denver West, and that’s one of the places I visited. At the time, DW was the End of the World as far as civilization on Colfax Blvd. The blocks to the west out to I-70 were vacant fields, except …<\/p>\n
… for two restaurants, side by side: a Healthy Habits, and a restaurant\/sports bar kind of place with a Greek name.<\/p>\n
They survived for a while, and were still here when the consolidated offices moved back from downtown to Denver West, but were at that point surrounded by the Denver West Shopping Center, and were competing against a Macaroni Grill, Hops, etc. <\/p>\n
A few years later, they both went out of business \/ shut down at the same time, which made me think that either (a) they were both owned by the same person, who was going under or had other plans for the property or something, or (b) the leaseholder had other plans and simply didn’t renew the lease.<\/p>\n
They sat vacant for several months, then were torn down. And the pads have stayed weedy squares ever since, even as Colorado Mills and its attendant restaurants have been filling out across Colfax.<\/p>\n
But now … hmmmm … property stakes have appeared in each corner of one of the pads (the former Greek-named place), with fluorescent pink ribbons fluttering in the light breeze. I wonder if something new is going in …?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
