in the Wind"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-shadow-right\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Wind turbine at Peetz Table Wind Farm\" height=\"187\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/images\/wind-turbine-peetz.jpg\" width=\"250\" \/> <\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.average-bear.com\/archive\/009477.html#9477\" target=\"_blank\">Doyce<\/a> has switched his Xcel account to use the Windsource program, which means his electrical bill is paying for wind power generated electricity.&nbsp;&nbsp;The program is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/search\/ci_5586955\" target=\"_blank\">the largest of its sort in the country<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What would that mean to us if we did the same?<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xcelenergy.com\/XLWEB\/CDA\/0,3080,1-1-2_735_16310-221-2_209_376-0,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">Windsource page<\/a>, the presently higher cost of wind power means a $1.83 per 100 Kwh usage.&nbsp; According to my last bill, we consumed 877 Kwh in June.&nbsp; That would have worked out to an extra $16.05 (which in turn, compared to an $81.43 electrical part of the bill) amounts to a 19.7% surcharge.<\/p>\n<p>(Note that the $1.83 includes eliminating the Air Quality Improvement fee &#8212; which can sometimes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rockymountainnews.com\/drmn\/energy\/article\/0,2777,DRMN_23914_5605718,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">backfire<\/a> &#8212;&nbsp;and Energy Commodity Adjustment fee; the latter, though, I believe is a variable, depending on how Xcel has to source its power, so it may actually provide greater savings, as it has in <a href=\"http:\/\/ww.cres-energy.org\/clips\/clips_07feb14_ws.html\" target=\"_blank\">the past<\/a>),<\/p>\n<p>Windsource is supported by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crs2.net\/HTMLemails\/2005\/CO_Winsource_Release_8.02.05.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Center for Resource Solutions<\/a>&nbsp;and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northstar.sierraclub.org\/campaigns\/air\/askWindsource.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sierra Club<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n<p>A less happy evaluation of the program&nbsp;is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thingelstad.com\/2006\/06\/xcel-energy-cheating-customers\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, and there have been some suggestions it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/denver\/stories\/2005\/05\/30\/story5.html\" target=\"_blank\">outlived its usefulness<\/a> and should be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/search\/ci_4438274\" target=\"_blank\">abolished<\/a>&nbsp;in its current form.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.finanznachrichten.de\/nachrichten-2007-04\/artikel-8021244.asp\" target=\"_blank\">North Dakota<\/a> recently rejected it because of the added consumer cost.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless,&nbsp;I think it&#8217;s a good deal &#8212;
