{"id":12185,"date":"2007-10-28T22:21:21","date_gmt":"2007-10-29T05:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2007\/10\/28\/burning-irony.html"},"modified":"2014-11-05T15:18:07","modified_gmt":"2014-11-05T22:18:07","slug":"burning_irony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2007\/10\/28\/burning_irony.html","title":{"rendered":"Burning irony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, today&#8217;s Gospel, from the standard Lectionary, was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke+18:9-14\" target=\"_blank\">Luke 18:9-14<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: &#8220;Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: &#8216;God, I thank you that I am not like other men \u2014 robbers, evildoers, adulterers \u2014 or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8220;But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, &#8216;God, have mercy on me, a sinner.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8220;I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And then we have <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshartlinereport.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/they-would-not-listen-and-now-we-are.html\" target=\"_blank\">this guy<\/a> ranting about God&#8217;s wrath on the folks he considers ungodly.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>They shook their fists at God and said, &#8220;We don&#8217;t care what God says, we will issue our legal brief to support gay marriage in San Diego!&#8221; Then Mayor Jerry Sanders mocked the Christian vote and signed off on this rebellious legal document to support same-sex marriage.&nbsp; And then the streets of La Jolla under the Mt.
