{"id":127544,"date":"2015-08-18T22:02:25","date_gmt":"2015-08-19T04:02:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2015\/08\/18\/our-lady-of-perpetual-exemption.html"},"modified":"2015-08-25T08:22:25","modified_gmt":"2015-08-25T14:22:25","slug":"our-lady-of-perpetual-exemption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2015\/08\/18\/our-lady-of-perpetual-exemption.html","title":{"rendered":"Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The televangelist thieves of the modern era are no different from the John Tetzels of the past &#8212; though Indulgence peddlers like Tetzel <i>(Tetzel!)<\/i> only promised salvation in the afterlife, not prosperity in this.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I can understand the IRS&#39; reluctance to challenge churches <i>per se.<\/i>  One man&#39;s faith is another man&#39;s belly laugh (or outrage), and trying to impose some sort of orthodoxy on the breadth of religious belief would be far too easy to be used as a weapon (as history teaches us, bloodily, over and over).<\/p>\n<p>Prosperity Gospel &quot;Send Us Your Seed Money&quot; yahoos will, I trust, face the music (thinking &quot;Night on Bald Mountain&quot; here) once they shake off this mortal coil, but, in the meantime, they are a too real justification for stripping churches of tax exemption as a general policy.
