It's weird — most movies I go to are genre enough that I get to see some movie trailers that look, at the very least, intriguing. <\/p>\n

Apparently The Martian<\/i> is being marketed, or classified, or considered very differently from all that. Or from me.<\/p>\n

The Forest<\/i><\/b> — Horror flick that's The Blair Witch Project<\/i> Meets Japan. They managed to use \/ abuse every horror trope in the book in one short trailer. Based on a True Place.<\/p>\n

The Big Short<\/i><\/b> — Topical dramedy about the real estate bubble \/ banking collapse and the True Story behind some guys who figured it out early then … made money betting against the banks? Whatever. No desire whatsoever, though it has a pretty good cast.<\/p>\n

Crimson Peak<\/i><\/b> — Another horror flick, but this one's (a) enchantingly gothic, (b) involved with in some fashion by Guillermo del Toro, and (c) stars Tom Hiddleston. Not that I'm going to ever watch it, but at least I can respect it.<\/p>\n

In the Heart of the Sea<\/i><\/b> — The True Story that inspired Moby-Dick,<\/i> or so the trailer asserts. A Ron Howard production and it looks purely gorgeous, and I will never watch it.<\/p>\n

Concussion<\/i><\/b> — Topical tale based on a true story about how the NFL exerts its big money to deny or minimize claims that its players are damaging their brains over and over and over again. No doubt a thought-provoking and well-told tale that I have no desire to watch.<\/p>\n

The Revenant<\/i><\/b> — A guy and an Indian and trappers and killing and burying and revenge and, I guess, based on a True Story. All-star cast. Nope.<\/p>\n

Joy<\/i><\/b> — It's the feel-good romantic comedy of the month, I think. Whatever.<\/p>\n

So, 0 for 8 trailers that point to movies I will ever watch without being strapped into a chair and having my eyeballs pried open. Apparently I'm not the target demographic for The Martian,<\/i> which is crazy because I definitely loved that movie.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
