{"id":128468,"date":"2015-10-29T07:49:11","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T13:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2015\/10\/29\/youre-a-grand-old-flag-or-are-you.html"},"modified":"2015-11-04T23:12:43","modified_gmt":"2015-11-05T06:12:43","slug":"youre-a-grand-old-flag-or-are-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2015\/10\/29\/youre-a-grand-old-flag-or-are-you.html","title":{"rendered":"You&#039;re a Grand Old Flag (or are you?)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this day and age, sitting still for an 18 minute TED talk is not always easy, but Roman Mars&#39; discussion of flags and design principles (extensible into design principles of most everything) is breezy and entertaining and worth a listen (and watch).<\/p>\n<p>It also got me to look up my own city&#39;s flag &#8212; which, if it has one (we&#39;re sort of a low-profile city) is probably based on its seal \/ logo &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Centennial_city_seal.png\">https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Centennial_city_seal.png<\/a> &#8212; which is not bad but is also recent enough to incorporate (amateurishly) some of the design elements Mars talks about (it also just got slightly tweaked and updated &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/GUOXKa\">http:\/\/goo.gl\/GUOXKa<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Does your city have a flag?  For that matter, does your state flag adhere to these design principles? And is that really important?
