I have no problem with the concept of making adjustments to the ACA. That's the way it works with most major legislation. Few laws or programs are perfect on the first go, and the bigger the package the more "gamma testing" determines what works and what needs adjustment.<\/p>\n

And, honestly, I think most Democrats would agree with that. They might disagree with what those tweaks need to be (mostly toward expansion and improvement), but even the president has never claimed that the law didn't require further work and evolution.<\/p>\n

The issue, then, has been with a GOP that has been focused more on either outright repeal or making crippling changes that make the financials of the package untenable. Making small changes has been extraordinarily difficult when the opening up the debate about any<\/i> changes leads to grandstanding proposals to act with an axe, not a scalpel.<\/p>\n

If the Republican leadership is actually beginning to (at least behind closed doors) accept the ACA as the New Normal, and work from there to improve it, that would be a win for everyone in the country. I might not necessarily agree with what they consider "improvements," but at least we as a country can then have that discussion, rather than listen to a never-ending Obamacare delenda est<\/i> tantrum.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
