Starting next month, Amazon will start collecting state sales taxes (2.9%) on purchases made by Colorado residents; this is the 28th state Amazon will be doing that for.<\/p>\n

Technically, of course, all Colorado residents under state law are already supposed to keep track of what sales tax they owe on Internet purchases (if not collected by the vendor) and self-report it as use tax. So … this will just make that a whole lot more convenient for everyone, right, people?<\/p>\n

(It's unclear if Amazon will be collecting county or city or special district sales taxes. So folk will still need to do that manually, of course.)<\/p>\n
