But, for reasons Scalzi notes eloquently, that&#39;s not only not going to happen, but it&#39;s not even all that rational thing for Dems to do. Especially since the alternatives are, themselves, ghastly and\/or creepifying.<\/p>\n<p>The threat of Trump taking the nomination is the finite chance that he&#39;ll win against [fill in whomever you think is going to get it on the Dem side]. Of course, the general election is precisely <i>when<\/i> the Dems should be voting against Trump, and encouraging their GOP compatriots to join them. <\/p>\n<p>The other threat is that another X months of Trump campaigning may tear the GOP apart &#8212; but the rhetoric involved could further damage the country even if he doesn&#39;t win. And unless there are some major sweeps in Congress, it would make for more zaniness in the next administration, even if a Dem wins the White House.<\/p>\n<p>But, no &#8212; plaintive cries for Democratic cross-overs in the primaries are just dumb.
