Lost the governorship to the other party? No worries — just strip away some of the governor's power, and the power of government bodies that are controlled by the "other side," and the problem's solved!<\/p>\n

At least that seems to be the North Carolina legislature's solution.<\/p>\n

'Legislators had convened to address disaster relief, but when the session called by lame duck Gov. Pat McCrory ended on Wednesday, the General Assembly quickly called a new special session to pass additional legislation.'<\/i><\/p>\n

Including reducing appointees, changing the election boards to be run by Republicans on even years (hey, isn't that when elections are usually held?), removing some offices and organizations the governor can appoint to, shifting jurisdiction in some cases from the Dem-majority supreme court to the GOP-majority court of appeals, and other such shenanigans.<\/p>\n

And, yes, the Dems could do (and probably have done) the same thing in their times, but it's still pretty nasty politics whoever's doing it.<\/p>\n
