Well, Twelfth Night was a smashing success, as (retrospectively) usual and per plan<\/a>. Twenty-two guests, plus Margie and me Katherine and Kaylee, so a reasonably full, if not overcrowded house. The usual combo of Church Folk and Close Friends (Margie and I both slacked off on inviting work people, and none of the neighbors we invited pre-Christmas came). The groups mixed with their usual conviviality, which is always nice to see.<\/p>\n

We actually did very well with the cleaning and all — helped at the last moment by various friends arriving early (some a bit more than expected \ud83d\ude42 ) — many thanks to Doyce & Kate, Jackie, and Stan for help with final prep. As it was, everything was ready, hot to serve, and prepped as things officially opened at 7:30.<\/p>\n

Hot was actually a good description for it. Unlike some years where we’ve had blizzards and people calling apologetically because of white-out conditions, last night was — well, not balmy, but above freezing. As a result, many beers drunk, vs. gl\u00f6gg and hot punch and coffee.<\/p>\n

A good time seemed to be had by all. Guests started trickling back out around 10 or so, and (after some gift exchange exchanges), people had taken off by around 11 or so.<\/p>\n

Margie and I did some clean-up and put-away, and were down by about 12:30 — and slept for a good 10-plus hours.<\/p>\n

Good times.<\/p>\n

BONUS “NATURE’S WONDERS” SECTION: As demonstrated by using the back porch on a winter’s night as an impromptu overflow icebox, raccoons like taquitos a quite a bit, but don’t care for turkey meatballs in a creamy dill sauce.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
