Because half (well, 10%) of the reason to go to the movies is to watch the trailers, amirite?<\/p>\n

The Hitman's Bodyguard<\/i><\/b> — I have to confess, this is the first comedy I've seen advertised in a long time that looked like it would be actually funny and<\/i> be full of explosions. I might actually go see this in the theater (or make a point to stream it in the future).<\/p>\n

Spider Man: Homecoming<\/i><\/b> — So this all looks good, and it has the super-hero vibe and<\/i> the Peter's a High School Student vibe from the original and all. But this was one of those annoying trailers that looks like it gives away not just a plot point, but about 90% of the plot.<\/p>\n

Transformers: The Last Knight<\/i><\/b> — If you are into Giant Robot Devastation Porn, this is the movie for you, because nobody does it better.<\/p>\n

Wonder Woman<\/i><\/b> — Not a new trailer, but still excited about the movie.Which isn't to say it couldn't turn out a hot mess, but I'm liking what I'm seeing here.<\/p>\n

Alien: Covenant<\/i><\/b> — For those folk who have been waiting for another Alien<\/i> movie, this looks like the movie for you. Stylish, spooky, screamy, and aligned with first film (only on a planet). <\/p>\n

Star Wars: The Last Jedi<\/i><\/b> — Again, same trailer as before, only in 3D. Still looking forward to Christmas.<\/p>\n

Thor: Ragnarok<\/i><\/b> — Yeah, even more excited about this one. Looks like it's going to hit all the geeky fanboy notes.<\/p>\n

And, yes, that's 4 sequels, 2 reboots[1], and 1<\/b> ostensibly original movie[3] (as the trailers running before yet another sequel[2]). It's Hollywood! Though, that said, as someone excited about a number of these, I really don't mind.<\/p>\n

[1] Is Spider-Man: Homecoming<\/i> a reboot, or a sequel? I called it a reboot here, but we have seen the (rebooted) character in Avengers: Civil War,<\/i> another sequel. Also, is Alien: Covenant<\/i> considered a sequel or a reboot? I went with sequel, but I don't know how it sits in continuity and couldn't really be bothered to look it up. I treated Wonder Woman<\/i> as a reboot, though she hasn't had a feature film before.<\/p>\n

[2] Interestingly, of these sequels, only GotG uses a sequence number. The rest use a subtitle. I know that sequel numbers led to a lot of mockery back in the 80s and 90s, but it is handy shorthand.<\/p>\n

[3] Though my daughter and I think The Hitman's Bodyguard<\/i> might be even funnier if (at least based on the trailer) it's consider a Captain America: Civil War<\/i> spin-off sequel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
