{"id":13400,"date":"2008-12-31T14:08:52","date_gmt":"2008-12-31T21:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2008\/12\/31\/karate-night.html"},"modified":"2008-12-31T14:08:52","modified_gmt":"2008-12-31T21:08:52","slug":"karate_night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2008\/12\/31\/karate_night.html","title":{"rendered":"Karate night"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-shadow-right\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"ISKF Mountain States logo\" height=\"123\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/images\/iskf-rockymtns-tiger.gif\" width=\"120\" \/> <\/div>\n<p>Well, we survived visiting Sean and Robbie&#8217;s dojo &#8212; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umackarate.net\" target=\"_blank\">UMAC center<\/a> in Rancho Cucamonga, which practices <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sh%C5%8Drin-ry%C5%AB\" target=\"_blank\">Shorin-ryu<\/a> style karate (second cousin to&nbsp;the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shotokan\" target=\"_blank\">Shotokan<\/a> that we work in).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was a smallish class, being a pick-up between Christmas and New Years &#8212; three black belts plus two other students plus Katherine and me. It was also heavily into sparring for prolonged periods (cue red-faced Dave huffing and puffing like mad, while my videographing brother chortled under his breath).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Katherine did quite well and had a lot of fun, and it was a pleasure both to practice with Sean and Robbie and to have a chance to meet Sensei Rick Duffy.<\/p>\n<hr width=\"75%\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We dragged Jackie off to this event, as well as the earlier-in-the-day quick tour of the Pomona College campus, the first time we&#8217;d been back there in a couple of years.
