\u275d The timing makes the cuts particularly brutal, national advocates say, coinciding as it does with the greatest period of reduction in teenage pregnancy the US has ever experienced. Although the US rate has spent two decades in decline, the country\u2019s teen birth ratio was until recently the highest in the industrialized world. In 2011, there were 57 teen births in the US for every 1,000 teenage girls, a rate roughly equal to Kyrgyzstan\u2019s.<\/i><\/p>\n

[…] From 2010 to 2016, the teen birth rate nationally plummeted 41%. No other six-year period saw a decline even half that size. The shift took place right as the Obama administration was making a unprecedented investments in sex education and other programming proven to reduce teen pregnancy.<\/i><\/p>\n

Now, the Trump administration has slashed that investment \u2013 all of it.<\/i> \u275e<\/p>\n

That's cutting $213M in state grants over a couple of years, which will pay for a hundred Tomahawk missiles or so. Definitely a great deal, right?<\/p>\n

One would think that folk concerned about abortion would be pressuring the Trump Administration to further promote sex education efforts, given their demonstrated association with reduced teen pregnancy rates. But too many of those folk think that "Just say No" works as well on sex as it does on drugs.<\/p>\n
