Still winning friend and influencing people in the US Senate, Donald. You do realize that Sen. McConnell is pretty essential to the passage of anything that you want to brag about. Most people would be encouraging, supportive, collaborative, all that. And, in a vacuum, that tweet might have applied &#8230; except this isn&#8217;t a vacuum, and coupled with your tweets about McConnell <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/895347654431035393\">earlier<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/895599179522650112\">this week<\/a>, make it clear this is marching orders \/ cajoling, not cheering from the sidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently you&#8217;ve decided McConnell threw you under the bus with his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/08\/08\/politics\/mitch-mcconnell-excessive-expectations\/index.html\">&#8220;excessive expectations&#8221; comment<\/a> the other day, so he&#8217;s fair game to be thrown under the bus first. That&#8217;s a real leadership lesson, Donald.<\/p>\n<p>Then you retweeted a couple of Fox &amp; Friends (of course) articles:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Senators learn the hard way about the fallout from turning on Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wq8Im1cHpy\">https:\/\/t.co\/wq8Im1cHpy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; FOX &amp; friends (@foxandfriends) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/foxandfriends\/status\/895930320742166528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 11, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The story talks about how Dean Heller, Jeff Flake, and, yes, Mitch McConnell are facing the potential (or even the reality) of well-funded primary threats back home.<\/p>\n<p>(Also, does that really strike anyone as a particularly &#8220;fair&#8221; or &#8220;balanced&#8221; headline? I mean, really? C&#8217;mon, Donald, it sounds like\u00a0<em>you<\/em> wrote it.)<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Trump fires new warning shot at McConnell, leaves door open on whether he should step down <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tJIRc0usWl\">https:\/\/t.co\/tJIRc0usWl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; FOX &amp; friends (@foxandfriends) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/foxandfriends\/status\/895922768772042753?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 11, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And another Fox &amp; Friends (of course!) retweet.<\/p>\n<p>The weird thing here is, Donald, this sort of thing is clearly just playing to your audience. I mean, McConnell knows what you said. He even knows about this Fox article. Your calling it out isn&#8217;t a message to him, it&#8217;s a message to your Trumpists to start calling for McConnell&#8217;s resignation (or at least his compliance with your demands). (More, less breathless, coverage of the attack\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/us-airstrikes-target-al-shabab-fighters-somalia\/story?id=49153961\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>But, of course, what everyone&#8217;s concerned about is North Korea. Are you going to reassure us that we remain safe? Or promise that if we&#8217;re attacked, we&#8217;ll slap &#8217;em down?
