Keith Schiller — former bodyguard, Trump Organization security chief, button man, and confidante of the President — has decided to call it quits<\/a> and head back to a much more lucrative private industry job.<\/p>\n

While the pay was apparently a thing, so were the changes wrought by John Kelly, who’s been trying to bring White House operations under control as the new chief of staff.<\/p>\n

Schiller has told friends that working under Kelly is very different, and that he doesn\u2019t like the job as much. He has said he believes that Kelly doesn\u2019t like Trump personally and is serving as chief of staff predominantly out of a sense of duty to country, according to three people familiar with his views. That has been deeply demoralizing for Schiller, who is accustomed to Trump being surrounded by devoted employees, two people said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

No, of course not, no Cult of Personality here!<\/p>\n

Schiller was also a way for Trump’s buddies and influencers to get the President’s ear — something harder to do under Kelly’s regime, and now, with Schiller’s departure, even more difficult.<\/p>\n

This last point is a big block of concern from the “allies” mentioned in the headlines — not so much that they<\/i> can’t easily get to the President any more (oh, of course, not) but the fear that Trump is becoming more isolated, and will face even more stress and frustration without a long-time sounding board and, dare one say, friend like Schiller around.<\/p>\n

In a normal administration, that might be an area of some concern. With the current one, keeping some of those old cronies away from the President, and having fewer “devoted” fans clustering about to stroke the President’s ego, all sound like a fine thing.<\/p>\n
