{"id":13496,"date":"2008-11-29T10:06:37","date_gmt":"2008-11-29T17:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2008\/11\/29\/sci-fi-movie-remakes-on-the-horizon.html"},"modified":"2008-11-29T10:06:37","modified_gmt":"2008-11-29T17:06:37","slug":"sci_fi_movie_remakes_on_t","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2008\/11\/29\/sci_fi_movie_remakes_on_t.html","title":{"rendered":"Sci-fi movie remakes on the horizon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/herocomplex\/2008\/11\/hollywood-back.html\" target=\"_blank\">Some SF remakes (and extensions) on the boards right now<\/a> &#8212; about which the usual mixed bag of impressions and concerns.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <strong><em>When Worlds Collide: <\/em><\/strong>Certainly possibilities, less as a sci-fi disaster flick but as a &#8220;how people react when only some people can be saved&#8221; film.<\/li>\n<li> <em><strong>Terminator: Salvation:<\/strong> <\/em>I confess, not a tremendous amount of interest.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Robocop:<\/em> <\/strong>Um, ditto. And I say that as a fan of the original. Which, really, is not that old.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Ghostbusters III:<\/em><\/strong> Um &#8230; only if it&#8217;s more like I and not like II, which seems improbable.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Creature from the Black Lagoon:<\/em> <\/strong>I don&#8217;t see how this could not be hokey in this day and age. If nothing else, the &#8220;there&#8217;s a mysterious primative monster lurking in the jungle&#8221; meme has been done to death by SciFri Channel, let alone a zillion other flicks.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Flash Gordon: <\/em><\/strong>Despite the death of the low-budget TV series, I think there&#8217;s plenty of room for a reimagining of the pulp classic.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Westworld: <\/em><\/strong>The original was too much fun, but it could probably be reworked for today. Though it will be hard to beat the Terminator-like efficiency of Yul Brynner. &#8220;Draw &#8230;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Logan&#8217;s Run:<\/em> <\/strong>Another one where the rather hokey and limited nature of the original movie makes this one well worth mining for a remake. My teenage brain also remembers there was a lot more obsession with hot sex in the book than in the movie. Hmmmmm. Maybe that was my teenage brain.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Forbidden Planet:<\/em><\/strong> I would be out picketing somewhere against this if Joe Straczynski weren&#8217;t writing it, with <a href=\"http:\/\/jmsnews.com\/msg.aspx?id=1-17738\" target=\"_blank\">his professed love and respect for the original<\/a>. As it is, here&#8217;s hoping.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Frankenstein:<\/em><\/strong> Again? I guess it&#8217;s an archetypal tale.<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>Fahrenheit 451:<\/em><\/strong> Certainly the issues of literacy, government and societal control of ideas, and censorship, couldn&#8217;t have any resonance with modern audiences any more, could it?<\/li>\n<li> <strong><em>The Illustrated Man:<\/em><\/strong> Not a huge Bradbury fan, to be honest, but this could be interesting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <small><\/p>\n<p>(via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghostofaflea.com\/archives\/011408.html\" target=\"_blank\">GoaF<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some SF remakes (and extensions) on the boards right now &#8212; about which the usual mixed bag of impressions and concerns.
