The Davis International Baccalaureate Elementary School in Jackson, Mississippi is changing, after a student body vote, from being named after Jefferson Davis to being named after Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

Generally I oppose naming things after live people, but I can’t deny that the nominclature is a significant upgrade, esp. in a school district that is 96% African-American. Two other schools in the district are named after Confederate figures, and will also be renamed in the future.<\/p>\n
