{"id":135189,"date":"2017-10-25T20:58:37","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T02:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/?p=135189"},"modified":"2017-10-27T07:28:54","modified_gmt":"2017-10-27T13:28:54","slug":"republicans-still-republicans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2017\/10\/25\/republicans-still-republicans.html","title":{"rendered":"There are Republicans, and there are still Republicans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now and again there are these GOP politicians who bubble up to the top of the stew that get loud cheers and huzzahs from the madding crowd because they dissent from one particular vote, or say a particularly biting thing about the GOP president, Mr Trump.<\/p>\n<p>And then they sink back into the pot.<\/p>\n<p>I heard some folk saying yesterday, &#8220;If Jeff Flake wants to strike out against Donald Trump, why doesn&#8217;t he just caucus with the Democrats until he retires?&#8221; The answer is obvious: because, frankly, he&#8217;s still a dyed-in-the-wool <i>Republican,<\/i> and aside from finding even Donald Trump more loose-cannon and infantile than even he can stomach, Flake is still more than happy to go along with the GOP anti-consumer, anti-woman, anti-minority, pro-military, pro-business, pro-gun collection of policy positions.<\/p>\n<p>Flake, Corker, McCain &#8212; just because they occasionally surprise, just because the sometimes say critical things about Donald Trump, doesn&#8217;t mean that they are great friends of the nation, let alone the Left, nor that they aren&#8217;t fully bought into the vast majority (if not all) the GOP talking points. They are not &#8220;rogues,&#8221; &#8220;mavericks,&#8221; or heroes. Or, for that matter, &#8220;RINOs&#8221; (except in some world of absolutist Trumpism). They are proud and righteous members of the Republican Party.
