{"id":135851,"date":"2018-01-14T09:33:02","date_gmt":"2018-01-14T16:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/?p=135851"},"modified":"2018-02-12T07:29:15","modified_gmt":"2018-02-12T14:29:15","slug":"confederate-flag-compromise-isnt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2018\/01\/14\/confederate-flag-compromise-isnt.html","title":{"rendered":"A confederate flag compromise that isn&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;d love to know whether GOP state rep Greg Snowden is being naive or nefarious in proposing a solution to the debate in Mississippi over continued use of the Confederate battle ensign in its state flag that will likely only satisfy the folk who want to keep that tribute to the slave-holding South.<\/p>\n<p>Snowden has filed a bill saying that the state can have <i>two<\/i> flags, &#8220;that may be flown with equal status and dignity to represent our state as we are beginning our third century as a member of the United States.&#8221; (With, ironically, a brief pause in there while they withdrew from the Union and fought under the Confederate States).<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, the second flag Snowden proposes is the Magnolia Tree flag &#8212; which is what the state used 1861-65, while it was rebelling.
