In part because I’m a comics geek and enjoy seeing the success of the MCU as a way to get more fun (and diversely fun) movies based on Marvel characters.<\/p>\n

In part because I think it’s very cool that African-Americans get to see characters that look like them, that have intersection with aspects of their lives, etc. Yes, they got that with the Luke Cage<\/i> TV series (also excellent), but here’s a character who’s even more aspirational, surrounded by other characters (many of them women) who are the same. In many ways, this is Thor<\/i> for that part of the very under-served audience, and that strikes me as a neat thing (and a clever move for Disney\/Marvel).<\/p>\n

Also in part, so that people who aren’t<\/i> African-American (including pasty-whites like me) can see black actors directed by a black director doing cool and admirable and fun things just like we’ve enjoyed white actors being directed by white directors doing),<\/i> and, just maybe, get over the idea that such a thing is unthinkable for a major action-adventure franchise with big box office.<\/p>\n

Also in part because it seems to be driving some people nuts with frustration, just the sort who should be driven nuts.<\/p>\n
