{"id":136034,"date":"2018-04-04T23:25:44","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T05:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/?p=136034"},"modified":"2018-04-05T08:29:02","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T14:29:02","slug":"doing-the-dishes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2018\/04\/04\/doing-the-dishes.html","title":{"rendered":"Doing the Dishes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, in a society that still leans heavily into women taking care of <i>all<\/i> the household stuff, whether or not they are working a paying job, who does the dishes is a major predictor for marital stress or harmony.<\/p>\n<p>So, I guess, then, that one explanation for my very happy marriage (23 years come this weekend) is that I do the dishes most of the time.<\/p>\n<p>The two important things there being:<\/p>\n<p>a. <i>I do the dishes<\/i> (because <span class=\"proflinkWrapper\"><span class=\"proflinkPrefix\">+<\/span><a class=\"proflink\" href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/103328827291075446110\">Margie Kleerup<\/a><\/span> cooks 95% of the meals, so that&#8217;s my contribution, and I think I get the much better end of that deal).<\/p>\n<p>b. <i>most of the time<\/i> (because even though we have <i>patterns<\/i> of who does what around the house, both of us are willing to pitch in to assist or do the work if circumstances require).<\/p>\n<p>If it avoids relationship tension, I&#8217;m happy to do the dishes.
