{"id":136115,"date":"2018-04-13T15:16:57","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T21:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/?p=136115"},"modified":"2018-04-15T18:41:26","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T00:41:26","slug":"google-looks-to-bridge-the-phone-text-pc-gap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2018\/04\/13\/google-looks-to-bridge-the-phone-text-pc-gap.html","title":{"rendered":"Google looks to bridge the phone text \/ PC gap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the few reasons I still use Hangouts amongst most of my family members is that I can use it both on my phone and on my computer &#8212; on multiple computers, in fact, whereas text messages are designed to go to the phone.<\/p>\n<p>While there are work-arounds to get to text messages from the desktop (I use MightyText to that end), there&#8217;s always a sense of &#8220;This looks and feels like a different app.&#8221; So I&#8217;m kind of excited that Google&#8217;s bringing seamless connectivity to their Messages app (which does texting but with the potential for something beyond SMS and MMS) to the the desktop experience &#8212; something that I can recommend for relatives devices, I hope.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it&#8217;s kind of an ongoing joke about Google creating and supporting (and then dropping) an endless array of messaging apps, but this seems like a simple but powerful incremental add that should be broadly usable by anyone without necessarily changing their behavior (i.e., people are going to still be texting, just doing so more conveniently).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"sm2wp\"><p><a style=\"display: inline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltrends.com\/mobile\/android-messages-on-the-web\/\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 650px;\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/w0a9brc9RUlpe5-v7eRmXBUU_fGKN1yIR5e8-X8RVOEkQPvK9ZuNGUo4ujFpXLdWEdZwdXzI3D8QvtPSiperdM4He_dbCQP5-yj8XdhlHrcIa1l39zDXPfFYuvjCe6NZ3w=w506-h910\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltrends.com\/mobile\/android-messages-on-the-web\/\">Google code offers hints that Android Messages is coming to a desktop near you<\/a><\/span><br \/>\nAndroid Messages on the web will allow you to use your PC and your desktop keyboard to send messages quicker. You&#8217;ll be able to receive and send messages on your phone and PC, so there&#8217;s no excuse in putting off replying to incoming texts.
