This is the cover page of the program for +<\/span>James Hill<\/a><\/span>‘s graduation.\u00a0As a quotations wonk, my brain klaxons started whooping as soon as I sat down and saw (a) a quote attributed to Albert Einstein that (b) really didn’t sound like Einstein.<\/p>\n

A quick check at the Quote Investigator site (thank you, Internet!) confirmed that this is not<\/em> something Einstein said<\/a>. Rather, a gent named John A. Shedd gets credit for it.<\/p>\n

Of course, it’s not proof-positive that Einstein never<\/i> said it. But if someone can come up with a citation that’s not a Pinterest or Etsy page, I’d love to see it.<\/p>\n

And all that<\/i> said, it’s not a bad motto for a high school senior class, even if my friend Mary notes that ships at shore are not necessarily safe.<\/p>\n
