How could you <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/22\/mccain-2000-tax-cuts\/\">endorse redistribution of wealth like that<\/a>? Oh, wait, that was back in 2000. Hmmmm &#8230; but would this count as <a title=\"McCain: You \u2018can\u2019t name a single issue\u2019 I\u2019ve flip-flopped on since 2000.\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/22\/mccain-flipflop-2000\/\">an&nbsp;issue you&#8217;ve flip-flopped on<\/a>? Say it ain&#8217;t so, John.<\/li>\n<li> Remember, when terrorists endorse McCain, it&#8217;s a trick, but when they endorse Obama, <a title=\"McCain Camp: When Terrorist Endorses Obama, It\u2019s For Real; When One Endorses  McCain, It\u2019s A Head Fake\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/22\/mccain-terrorist-endorsement\/\">it&#8217;s for real<\/a>. Right.<\/li>\n<li> Can John McCain still win? &#8220;Anything&#8217;s possible&#8221; &#8212; but&nbsp;<a title=\"Robert J. Elisberg: When a Landslide Isn't a Landslide\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/robert-j-elisberg\/when-a-landslide-isnt-a-l_b_137164.html\">how precisely can he go about it?<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>PALIN<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> The NeedlessMarkupGate Scandal continues to dog poor Gov. Palin. Since&nbsp;the&nbsp;clothing was a&nbsp;gift from the RNC to her family, some people are wondering <a title=\"So when is Sarah Palin paying $50,000 in taxes on the $150,000 in clothes the RNC gave her?\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/%7Er\/Americablog\/%7E3\/429289597\/so-when-is-sarah-palin-paying-50000-in.html\">when she&#8217;ll be paying the $50K in gift taxes she&#8217;ll owe on it<\/a>. Some other people are surprised that McCain is wholeheartedly supporting her for it, given that five years ago he was <a title=\"Flashback: McCain supported amendment to restrict use of campaign funds on &#10;\u2018clothing purchases.\u2019\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/23\/mccain-clothes-rnc\/\">supporting legislation to forbid just that sort of thing<\/a>&nbsp;(something about how having campaigns pay for clothing and other personal items would seriously &#8220;erode public confidence&#8221;).&nbsp;&nbsp;On the other hand, <a title=\"Meanwhile FOX News shows just how biased they really are.\" href=\"http:\/\/stupidevilbastard.com\/index\/seb\/comments\/meanwhile_fox_news_shows_just_how_biased_they_really_are\/\">Fox News is all over how unfair it is for the media to dwell on personal grooming expenses of candidates.<\/a> <\/li>\n<li> Maybe Palin can pay back the GOP for some of those dresses by <a title=\"Gingrich: SNL\u2019s Palin skits are \u2019slander\u2019 \u2018worthy of a lawsuit.\u2019\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/23\/gingrich-palin-snl\/\">suing SNL for slander<\/a>, as Newt Gingrich suggests she do. Yeah, great idea there, Newt. (Hey, weren&#8217;t you a big tort reform guy once upon a time?)<\/li>\n<li> Is Palin being stupid or disingenuous here, first saying&nbsp;<a title=\"Palin: \u2018I\u2019m Not Going To Call\u2019 Obama \u2018A Socialist,\u2019 But He Believes In  Socialism\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/21\/palin-obama-socialist\/\">she won&#8217;t call Obama a socialist<\/a>, then talking about how Obama&#8217;s policy proposals are all socialist? Hmmmm, maybe both.<\/li>\n<li> A tip to the Governor: when you (incorrectly) rag on an opponent about his being willing to sit down with terrorists and dictators &#8220;without preconditions,&#8221; you might want to actually have <a title=\"Palin stumped when asked to explain her preconditions for meeting foreign &#10;leaders.\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/22\/palin-preconditions\/\">figured out what preconditions <em>you yourself<\/em> would insist upon<\/a>. D&#8217;oh!<\/li>\n<li> Okay, it&#8217;s a cheap shot <a title=\"Finally ...\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/%7Er\/ForYourEntertainment\/%7E3\/427537803\/political-pictures-sarah-palin-beauty.html\">but a funny one.<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>OBAMA<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> Why are Republicans voting for Obama? <a title=\"Eric Hirshberg: Republicans Voting for Obama: In Their Own Words\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/eric-hirshberg\/republicans-voting-for-ob_b_136997.html\">Just listen.<\/a> <\/li>\n<li> Why is Obama winning? <a title=\"Why Barack Obama is Winning - TIME\" href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/nation\/article\/0,8599,1853025-1,00.html\">Steady temperment and thoughtful decision-making<\/a>. What novel attributes for a president!<\/li>\n<li> Unlike some candidates, <a title=\"The Obamas Discuss Dressing On A Budget (VIDEO)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2008\/10\/22\/the-obamas-discuss-dressi_n_137009.html\">the Obama family isn&#8217;t dropping $150K for a wardrobe.<\/a> <\/li>\n<li> This picture was from earlier this summer, when Obama visited Hawaii and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/bagnewsnotes.typepad.com\/bagnews\/2008\/10\/family-matters.html\">threw a lei into the ocean<\/a>&nbsp;where his mother&#8217;s ashes were scattered. Very quietly touching.<\/li>\n<li> Mad props to Ron Howard (et al.) for <a title=\"Ron Howard's Call For Obama With Andy Griffith And Henry Winkler\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2008\/10\/23\/ron-howards-call-for-obam_n_137214.html\">this little film<\/a>&nbsp;and being willing to, um, humiliate himself in order to get his message of support for the Obama campaign out.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>OTHER RACES<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> Rep. Bachmann says she doesn&#8217;t actually think Obama is anti-American, really, at least not to speak of &#8212; she just got <a title=\"Bachmann: It\u2019s All Chris Matthews\u2019 Fault! \u2018He Laid A Trap, And I Walked Into  It\u2019\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/22\/bachmann-anti-american-3\/\">tricked into saying it<\/a>&nbsp;by a nasssssty interviewer. Sorry, Ma&#8217;am, Gov. Palin already used that excuse. Of course, Bachmann is also <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/10\/the_bachmann_two-step.php\">telling the press one thing, and telling her far-right audiences (whom she&#8217;s hitting up for money, since the GOP&#8217;s abandoned her) something quite different<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li> Rep. Hayes, who I featured the other day first saying &#8220;liberals hate America&#8221; and then his campaign saying he flatly denied saying that, now <a title=\"Rep. Hayes denies denying that he said \u2018liberals hate real Americans.\u2019\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/22\/hayes-denial\/\">denies denying that he said it<\/a>.&nbsp;Are you keeping up here? But don&#8217;t worry, Rep. Hayes, evidently calling liberals &#8220;anti-American&#8221; is <a title=\"GOP lawmakers repeatedly call liberals \u2018anti-American\u2019 on House floor.\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/23\/poe-foxx\/\">the &#8220;in&#8221; thing in your crowd<\/a>.I&#8217;d love to see Marilyn Musgrave <a title=\"CO-04: NRCC Pulls Out\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.dailykos.com\/%7Er\/dailykos\/index\/%7E3\/ivfJcfPqNoU\/639151\">get retired<\/a>. Talk about an embarrassment to our state.<\/li>\n<li> I knew Colorado&#8217;s Amendment 48 was bad news, but I hadn&#8217;t realized <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/cristina-page\/extremism-in-colorado_b_137238.html\">Chow heinous it is<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li> I live in a nice, conservative suburb of Denver, Tom Tancredo Country, one of those places where almost every local contest goes to the (R)s. Yet, astonishingly, <a title=\"McCain, Obama Camps Fight For Arapahoe County In Colorado\" href=\"http:\/\/cbs4denver.com\/local\/arapahoe.county.voters.2.846696.html\">Arapahoe County<\/a>&nbsp;is now considered a swing disctrict! Yow!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>THE CAMPAIGN<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> Who is&nbsp;a Real American? Here are some suggestions of what&nbsp;<a title=\"Deep Thought: Rightist rhetoric makes a disturbing turn into their conscious thinking.\" href=\"http:\/\/tiodt.blogspot.com\/2008\/10\/rightist-jargon-makes-disturbing-turn.html\">Americans (at one of them) wants<\/a>. Sounds like a pretty good list to me.<\/li>\n<li> <a title=\"Election 08 as a Dungeons and Dragons campaign\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/%7Er\/boingboing\/iBag\/%7E3\/429525548\/election-08-as-a-dun.html\">Election 08 as a Dungeons and Dragons campaign<\/a> &#8211; Kind of goofy, but with some amusing points.<\/li>\n<li> Was a McCain volunteer brutally attacked for her political beliefs? Um, chances look high that <a title=\"Ugliness Watch (Or Not)\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.tnr.com\/tnr\/blogs\/the_stump\/archive\/2008\/10\/23\/ugliness-watch-or-not.aspx\">it was a hoax<\/a>.&nbsp;Even Michelle Malkin, God help us, doesn&#8217;t believe the story. What&#8217;s remarkable (and scary and disgusting) is checking out the linkbacks at the bottom of the Malkin article, most of which are drinking-the-koolaid&nbsp;&#8220;See! See the Muslim-thugocracy black-on-white violence inherent in the Obama candidacy! Help! We&#8217;re being oppressed&#8221; kind of insane crap. I mean, these people really believe that the Obama Campaign is sending black thugs with knives to beat up and intimidate McCain supporters (and the only reason we don&#8217;t hear about it is because of a media conspiracy, of course). Yeesh.<\/li>\n<li> Do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/sally-kohn\/why-i-love-taxes-----and_b_137288.html\">most Americans love taxes<\/a>? I think most Americans think taxes are necessary, and even a civic duty. But I don&#8217;t think they <em>love <\/em>them.<\/li>\n<li> The GOP Intellectual Wing who&#8217;ve been banished and battered for daring to suggest that Obama might be a better candidate and that the Republican Party has strayed from its core vision, <a title=\"Parker Defends Buckley [Dispatches from the Culture Wars]\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/%7Er\/ScienceblogsCombinedFeed\/%7E3\/428570251\/parker_defends_buckley.php\">continue to speak out<\/a>. I must confess to a bit of <em>schadenfreude<\/em>, but I honestly do wish them well in flushing the fat cats and social conservatives from their party.<\/li>\n<p><a title=\"Bachmann: It\u2019s All Chris Matthews\u2019 Fault! \u2018He Laid A Trap, And I Walked Into  It\u2019\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/10\/22\/bachmann-anti-american-3\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n<li> Why it&#8217;s <a title=\"Aram Khayatpour: Don't Vote, You've Got Better Things To Do\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/aram-khayatpour\/dont-vote-youve-got-bette_b_137281.html\">criitical that people vote<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li> Why it&#8217;s <a title=\"Reason on why Republicans need to get their clocks cleaned in 2008\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/%7Er\/boingboing\/iBag\/%7E3\/428737812\/reason-on-why-republ.html\">critical not just to beat the Republicans, but to beat them badly.<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And so it goes.
