Actually, I’m really pleased by how the whole conversion went, esp. since 99% of the effort was of my own choosing. Had I been just “export, install, import,” it would have gone a lot faster. I will likely take that approach on most of the other blogs, unless I can deduce a major reason to try and maintain a large body of internal links.<\/p>\n
WP could use some more coherent documentation on Movable-Type-to-WordPress transfers. There’s a lot of stuff out there, some of it aging, some of it goofy, a lot of it cross-referential, and most of it confusing to a novice. I’m going to write up my notes, which probably won’t help things any, but one of the drawbacks to an open source, user-supported platform like WP is that you get what you pay for (well, you actually get a lot more, but you don’t get a coherent vision and direction in the documentation). (Nor, do I hasten to point out, does SixApart have anything to crow over this, as the MT docs have actually gotten worse in their last few incarnations.)<\/p>\n
I have a busy day at work, so not much I anticipate doing today. I have gotten my Flickr connection working (much more straightforwardly than with MT), and Akismet is already slamming spam, so life’s pretty good.<\/p>\n
