A survey of Republicans and Democrats find that the former are much more likely to sexually fantasize about extra-marital activities — infidelity, orgies, swinging, voyeurism — than their counterparts. The latter, on the other hand, seem to fantasize more about BDSM style sexual activities.<\/p>\n

The author speculates this is less because Republicans enjoy breaking vows or Democrats enjoy pain (though, frankly, that explains a lot about Democratic party politics), than because of reactance<\/i> — attraction to forbidden things. I.e., Republicans, being more "traditional family" focused, fantasize about the opposite; Dems, being more about "equality," fantasize about unequal sexual relationships.<\/p>\n

The author also notes that these are the outliers — most sexual fantasies among self-identified Republicans are quite similar to those among self-identified Democrats. What unites us (so to speak) is greater than what pulls us apart. Unless, you know, you're into that sort of thing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
