Do I think Donald Trump was cultivated and placed in the highest office of the land by the Russian Government to act as their covert agent and carefully further Russian interests as part of some sinister secret plot?<\/p>\n

No, of course not. The Russians are far more competent than that. And even before the election, "careful," "covert," and "secret" were not words one associated with the no-impulse-control real estate flim-flam man named Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Now, do I think Donald Trump was cultivated and placed in the highest office of the land by the Russian Government to damage the workings of American politics, divide the United States, and tarnish our reputation at home and abroad?<\/p>\n

Yes. Yes, I do. <\/p>\n

(With enough nudge-and-wink to get Trump to think he was in on something big and profitable, but not so much that he could spill the beans, or think he was being manipulated, of course.)<\/p>\n

At best, I think the Russians simply did their best to support him (and his nationalist plutocratic zaniness), never dreaming he'd actually be elected, but anticipating (correctly) that his very candidacy, with their assistance, would corrode the assumptions, axioms, and social restraints of American political discourse and American society. That he in fact won and has been able to carry on his destructive campaign of narcissism, corruption, nepotism, and blatant spitting in the face of restraint and self-control from inside<\/i> the White House was an unexpected opportunity, one they have been delighted to sit back with their popcorn and vodka and watch with big grins on their faces.<\/p>\n

Can this be proven in a court of law? Hard to say. Were he not President of the United States, I think federal prosecutors would definitely give it a go. We'll know more when the Mueller report comes out.<\/p>\n

Can it be proven sufficiently to get the GOP in Congress to impeach? Unfortunately, we've gotten to the point where they've been so unquestionably supportive of Donald that to turn on him would probably be political suicide. I suspect that too many of them are hoping against hope that Trump won't make it through the 2020 election, one way or another, and they can laugh the experience off as a bad dream that netted them enough of their party goals that they can pretend it was all worth it. ("For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" — Mark 8:36)<\/p>\n
