Even though a significant majority of Americans overall favor the Equality Act &#8212; extending federal civil rights protection for employment, housing, and public business access to the LGBT populace &#8212; a majority of\u00a0<em>Republican<\/em>\u00a0voters don&#8217;t.\u00a0 And so, presumably, the GOP in the Senate will block it, en masse or simply by Mitch McConnell issuing a pocket veto by not bringing it to the floor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-138291\" title=\"equality flag\" src=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag-650x433.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag-650x433.jpg 650w, https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/equality-flag.jpg 1484w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The only glimmer of hope is the Senate race in 2020 is as bad for the GOP as it was in 2018 for the Dems. There are a number of GOP Senators running in &#8220;purple&#8221; states (including my own Cory Gardner) that might find their race all the more difficult should they be too hardline against this bill, whatever their personal preferences.<\/p>\n<p>Will that be enough? We will see.
