Snyder seems positively offended that other<\/em> people are offended by how he handled Batman and Superman in the trio of DCEU movies he made.<\/p>\n

Someone says to me: \u2018[Ben Affleck\u2019s] Batman killed a guy,\u2019\u201d Snyder said during a Q&A after a\u00a0Watchmen<\/em>\u00a0screening event<\/a>, as seen in a video posted to\u00a0Reddit<\/a>\u00a0on March 24. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Fuck, really? Wake the fuck up.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Comic book fans complain to Snyder about the dark tone of his movies, he said, airing frustrations about how those heroes have killed people without any kind of remorse or conscience, especially in\u00a0Batman v Superman.<\/em><\/p>\n

Then he explained how\u00a0Watchmen<\/em>, his 2009 film, is about the gritty reality of superheroes \u2014 in no uncertain, or family-friendly, terms.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce you\u2019ve lost your virginity to this fucking movie and then you come and say to me something about, like, \u2018My superhero wouldn\u2019t do that,\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Are you serious?\u2019 I\u2019m, like, down the fucking road on that,\u201d Snyder said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a cool point of view to be like, \u2018My heroes are still innocent. My heroes didn\u2019t fucking lie to America. My heroes didn\u2019t embezzle money from their corporations. My heroes didn\u2019t commit any atrocities.\u2019 That\u2019s cool. But you\u2019re living in a fucking dream world,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If Snyder only finds creative joy in writing about heroes that are “gritty,” who find killing to be just a natural part of how they express themselves … that’s certainly his prerogative. I just don’t care to go to any more films he might be asked to make within the genre.<\/p>\n

Ironically, I suppose, I actually like\u00a0Watchmen<\/em> a lot, as a remarkably faithful adaptation of Alan Moore’s deconstruction of the superhero genre. But I don’t consider its characters heroic, and I don’t need Batman, Superman, or the Justice League to be remade in\u00a0Watchmen<\/em> style.* I’m “down the road on that.”<\/p>\n

I realize others might have a different aesthetic. More power to them, and I hope Snyder gets to make some other movies along those lines that they will enjoy. But I won’t be spending any money on them, and I hope none of them involve characters that I enjoy.<\/p>\n
