And for that he deserves to be punished.<\/p>\n<p>But should that punishment be determined because Rhines is gay?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>New evidence shows that at least one juror sentenced Rhines to death because he thought, as a gay man, he \u201cshouldn\u2019t be able to spend his life with men in prison.\u201d One juror recalled another commenting that \u201cwe\u2019d be sending him where he wants to go if we voted for [life without parole].\u201d And a third juror confirmed that \u201cthere was lots of discussion of homosexuality. There was a lot of disgust. \u2026 There were lots of folks who were like, \u2018Ew, I can\u2019t believe that.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, the 1993 South Dakota jury decided that Rhines should be executed, rather &#8220;just&#8221; than sentenced to life in prison &#8230; because they thought it would be\u00a0<em>fun<\/em> for him, stuck behind bars with all those\u00a0<em>men!<\/em> In\u00a0<em>prison!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yeesh.<\/p>\n<p>Will the Supreme Court see this particular sentencing for the injustice it is?<\/p>\n<p><em>Do you want to know more?<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2019\/04\/rhines-jury-death-sentence-because-gay.amp?__twitter_impression=true\">The Supreme Court must rule that juries can\u2019t sentence a man to death because he\u2019s gay.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/04\/01\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-gay-bias-charles-rhines.html\">A Jury May Have Sentenced a Man to Death Because He\u2019s Gay.
