From today’s Epistle<\/a> (James 2:14-18<\/a>, emphasis mine)<\/p>\n

\n

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?<\/strong> In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.  But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To my mind, provision of health care to all in our society is a moral <\/em>imperative, and one that God clearly expects from us<\/a>. The current for-profit system has clearly not been able or willing to do so,<\/em> to the shame of those who support the status quo and call it “the greatest health care on earth” (for those who can afford it<\/a>). To Christians I would say that, if we want to dare call ourselves a “Christian nation,” but do so only based on our “faith” and not our “deeds,” then we are being the very hypocrites that James condemns<\/em>. <\/p>\n

If this be “socialism,” make the most of it.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(I’m not one for arguing from Bible verse, but can do so if that’s the only way to get the message across to the target audience.)<\/p>\n
