But after a very diligent (if ineffective) August, where I started weighing myself daily and ended up at 199.7 lbs., I had an extremely slacking September when I weighted myself very rarely and ended up at &#8230; 199.5.<\/p>\n<p>Huh.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weight loss for the year, as of the end of September\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/weight090930.png\" width=\"531\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Actually, that&#8217;s even including a week-long business trip (with&nbsp;the deadly combo of Many Meals Out and Sitting On My Ass All Day). So the results aren&#8217;t bad &#8212; and there&#8217;s still a downward sloping trend&nbsp;line&nbsp;(blue), though&nbsp;I&#8217;ve missed my goal of 185 by the end of last month (purple).<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;ll note two other things: first, the bars there are actually very close together (5 lbs.), which is an easy variation with water retention, etc., from day to day. So I don&#8217;t worry &#8212; too much &#8212; about that spike at the end, which is exaggerated by being the only weigh-in in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Second, I&#8217;ve been below 200 for two straight months. Barely (barely!), but there it is. I consider that a personal victory.<\/p>\n<p>So what&#8217;s next?<\/p>\n<p>*sigh*<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The price of waistline is eternal vigilance,&#8221; as they say. So back to daily weigh-ins, and back to the Geek Diet (counting calories). Yes, I said that last month, and didn&#8217;t. And you notice I have been <em>not <\/em>watching my weight, which is a good sign (for me) that I&#8217;m aware that I&#8217;m not doing what I&#8217;m supposed to be doing. So a mental rap on the knuckles and <em>let&#8217;s do better<\/em>. I have the tools, I just need the self-reminders and discipline. The story of my life, in many ways.<\/p>\n<p>At the very least, I&#8217;ve had the discipline to burden my reading audience with this stuff on a monthly basis.
