And, yes, if I were meeting or calling the president, I certainly would say congratulations.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/09\/us\/politics\/09interrogate.html?_r=1&amp;ref=us&amp;pagewanted=print\">Congress Moves to Require Taped Detainee Sessions &#8211; NYTimes.com<\/a> &#8211; Onerous?  Yes.  But justified by the abuse.  And, honestly, there are some advantages to this, too.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2009\/10\/08\/coburn-political-science\/\">Coburn Wants To Dump Political Science Funding Since Americans Can Just  \u2018Turn To CNN, Fox News, MSNBC\u2019<\/a> &#8211; &#8220;Theories on political behavior are best left to CNN, pollsters, pundits, historians, candidates, political parties, and the voters, rather than being funded out of taxpayers\u2019 wallets.&#8221;  Ah, yes.  I&#8217;m sure the Founding Fathers woul be proud.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailygifblog.com\/2009\/10\/not-much-has-changed.html\">Not Much Has Changed<\/a> &#8211; Nice.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/PamsHouseBlend\/~3\/_NCmUyyXHA4\/obama-wins-the-nobel-peace-prize-rightwingers-not-happy\">Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize! Rightwingers not happy<\/a> &#8211; Excellent: we have the &#8220;See, he&#8217;s really the Anti-Christ&#8221; crowd, the &#8220;See, yet another anti-Israel, anti-America&#8221; crowd, and the folks who don&#8217;t realize the irony of complaining that he&#8217;s not had time to do anything yet EXCEPT &#8220;destroy the greatest nation on Earth.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.3quarksdaily.com\/3quarksdaily\/2009\/10\/president-barack-obama-wins-nobel-peace-prize-.html\">President Barack Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize<\/a> &#8211; Heck, even the Nobel Committee can&#8217;t come up with actual accomplishments, just sort of, &#8220;Hey, he&#8217;s not beating the war drums obsessively.&#8221;  Which, yes, is a very good thing, but let&#8217;s get real.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2009\/10\/09\/acrobat-vulnerability\/\">ALERT: Vulnerability Discovered in Adobe Acrobat and Reader<\/a> &#8211; Big surprise &#8212; add a programming language into a display program and you get programs to exploit it.  Why Adobe Acrobat actually needs Javascript is beyond me.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2009\/US\/10\/09\/military.gays.dismissals\/index.html\">More women than men dismissed from military for being gay &#8211; CNN.com<\/a> &#8211; It&#8217;s actually more women <b>proportionately<\/b> &#8230; but it does still seem to call into question the whole &#8220;guys can&#8217;t stand serving with guys who are gay&#8221; argument some make.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/xkcd.com\/647\/\">Scary<\/a> &#8211; Whoa.  (Ditto the hover comments.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maximumpc.com\/article\/news\/unbelievable_123456_most_common_hotmail_password\">Unbelievable: &#8220;123456&#8221; Most Common Hotmail Password<\/a> &#8211; Unbelievable that Hotmail users are that clueless? Really?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cafephilos.wordpress.com\/2009\/10\/09\/president-obama-wins-nobel-peace-prize\/\">President Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize<\/a> &#8211; &#8220;&#8230; And for best exemplifying what the US can be when Bush and Cheney aren&#8217;t running things &#8230;&#8221;  Yeah, I agree it&#8217;s premature, and feels a scosh political (not that the Nobel Peace Prizes haven&#8217;t been in the past).  And I have no doubt that his enemies will seize on this as yet more of a sign that Obama is a &#8220;peace-loving wuss.&#8221;  On the other hand &#8212; OMG, can you imagine if someone, three years ago, said that the sitting US president would win the Nobel Peace Prize, how unlikely that would have seemed?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/readwriteweb\/~3\/WS67eGS8RZs\/google_fixes_usenet_archive_old_geeks_rejoice.php\">Google Fixes Usenet Archive; Old Geeks Rejoice<\/a> &#8211; Good to hear.  Though the comment &#8220;Just one bug wrecking search results for archives spanning 700 million posts and more than 20 years of data? Seems hardly likely.&#8221; sounds like itself comes more from ignorance than anything else.
