{"id":1627,"date":"2001-12-02T19:15:34","date_gmt":"2001-12-03T00:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/?p=1627"},"modified":"2001-12-02T19:15:34","modified_gmt":"2001-12-03T00:15:34","slug":"making_the_grad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2001\/12\/02\/making_the_grad.html","title":{"rendered":"Making the grade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is it a bad sign when I find myself <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washtimes.com\/national\/20011128-453422.htm\">agreeing<\/a> with our current Supreme Court?<\/p>\n<p>In arguments this past week about the case I mentioned (involving peer grading in classrooms and whether this violated a Federal law regarding educational record confidentiality), the Supremes certainly seemed less than welcoming to the outrages clamed by the plaintiff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"block\">Mr. Wright said schools should seek prior parental consent as they now do for sex education, special examinations and field trips.<br \/>\nJustice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said that sounded like allowing one parent veto power over the class.<br \/>\nMr. Wright said the law sponsors sought to shield the entire grading system and block schools from the &#8220;unfettered, unshackled right to disclose a record to anyone they choose,&#8221; even to publish exam scores in the newspaper.<br \/>\nChief Justice William H. Rehnquist chided Mr. Wright, saying the attorney was arguing that an adverse ruling &#8220;would allow a teacher to do something that no teacher has ever done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><small>(Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.overlawyered.com\/\">Overlawyered<\/a>)<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is it a bad sign when I find myself agreeing with our current Supreme Court?
