{"id":16726,"date":"2010-02-13T23:35:06","date_gmt":"2010-02-14T06:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/?p=16726"},"modified":"2010-02-13T23:35:06","modified_gmt":"2010-02-14T06:35:06","slug":"cookie-monster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2010\/02\/13\/cookie-monster.html","title":{"rendered":"Cookie Monster"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_16727\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16727\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16727\" title=\"Thin Mints\" src=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/thin_mints.jpg\" alt=\"They're Wafer-thin!\" width=\"150\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16727\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">They&#39;re Wafer-thin!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>So, today, as Cookie Dad for Kay&#8217;s Girl Scout Troop, I participated in the first (of three) &#8220;booth sales&#8221; at the local King Soopers supermarket, from Noon to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>A few observations.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Most people who encountered us and our sales pitch to buy cookies were happy and pleasant about it.\u00a0 Those who chose not to, generally cited a plethora of other GS cookies in their lives &#8212; kids, grandkids, the office, neighbors.\u00a0 The other few simply ignored us.<\/li>\n<li>Sales were pretty good, though I&#8217;d guess about half the people who said they&#8217;d buy cookies on their way out of the store did not, in fact, do so.<\/li>\n<li>Three hours is a long stint for 4th-5th Graders.<\/li>\n<li>I probably overplanned for the whole extravaganza.\u00a0 But I was there both as a parent-volunteer and as the Troop Cookie Manager, so I figured being overly-concerned with process and so forth was to the good.<\/li>\n<li>We sold 130 boxes of cookies over the three hours.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Tomorrow I need to start the delicate juggling between (a) cookies we&#8217;ve ordered, (b) cookies\u00a0 ordered by girls subsequent to the initial order, (c) cookies for the next two booth sales, (d) cookies we still have on hand, (e) ending up with a minimal number of extra cookies that someone (coughmecough) has to pay for.<\/p>\n<p>Riding herd on three 4th-5th Graders, taking money \/ giving change, and tallying cookies sales &#8212; it&#8217;s not an impossible task, but it&#8217;s not exactly what I&#8217;m aiming for in my Saturday afternoons.\u00a0 On the other hand, I can think of worse pastimes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, today, as Cookie Dad for Kay&#8217;s Girl Scout Troop, I participated in the first (of three) &#8220;booth sales&#8221; at the local King Soopers supermarket, from Noon to 3 p.m. A few observations.
