{"id":1729,"date":"2002-05-09T20:21:06","date_gmt":"2002-05-10T01:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/?p=1729"},"modified":"2014-06-13T17:12:51","modified_gmt":"2014-06-13T23:12:51","slug":"which_is_more_u","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2002\/05\/09\/which_is_more_u.html","title":{"rendered":"Which is more unbelievable?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Which is more unbelievable (or, if you will, scary)?<\/p>\n<p>That some folks actually thought that <i>The Two Towers<\/i>, the title of the next <i>Lord of the Rings <\/i>movie (and the title of the second book, published in 1954), was specifically chosen as an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/news\/749507.asp?0si=-\">insensitive exploitation of the 9-11 WTC tragedy<\/a>?  (I hope it was a joke.  I really hope it was a joke.  I desperately hope it was a joke.)<\/p>\n<p>That they actually got over 1,200 people to sign their petition to Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema to change the title?  (Though it sounds like a lot of the signers were poking fun at the petition, too.)<\/p>\n<p>Or that Peter Jackson actually considered the thought back in September, before quickly coming back to sanity?  (Nobody was responsible for what they thought right after that tragedy.)<\/p>\n<p>As one wag at the petition site also suggested, <\/p>\n<p class=\"block\">&#8220;I think they should rename New York too, because every time I hear &#8216;New York&#8217; it makes me think of that day and it makes me cry.  That and the words \u2018world,\u2019 \u2018trade,\u2019 and \u2018center\u2019 should be removed from our language as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And people wonder why a true democracy is such a dangerous idea &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><small>(Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sekimori.com\/weblog\/archives\/000720.html#000720\">Blogatelle<\/a>)<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Which is more unbelievable (or, if you will, scary)?
