Many states required attendance at least some church on Sundays, had the state supporting the establishment church&#8217;s clergy, etc.  That&#8217;s why we ended up with a 1st Amendment &#8212; not against King George III, but against ourselves.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/Three-starDavesSharedItemsInGoogleReader\/~3\/zc_jzzSkZRY\/\">Rand Paul Not An Anomaly: More Fringe Tea Party Candidates Set To Knock Off  Favored GOP Candidates<\/a> &#8211; The GOP leadership figured if they encouraged the TPers, they&#8217;d turn around and vote the GOP ticket.
