  2. Know people whose bicycles are worth more than their cars?<\/strong> No.<\/li>\n
  3. Associate the scent of roasting chile peppers with the end of summer?<\/strong> No … with Margie’s posole …<\/li>\n
  4. Own a huge assortment of athletic clothing but nothing appropriate for dinner at a swanky restaurant? <\/strong>Afraid not … though, generally speaking, there aren’t a lot of Colorado restaurants that are so swanky you can’t get away with denim.<\/li>\n
  5. Know where to find the Valley Highway and the Boulder Turnpike? <\/strong>Of course (that would be I-25 south of downtown (the first “freeway” in the area), and SR 36 up toward Boulder (notably a turnpike that actually was turned “free” once it was paid off).<\/li>\n
  6. Assume that a conversation about the Triple Bypass refers to the bicycling event, not a medical procedure<\/strong>. Um … no.<\/li>\n
  7. Know how longtime Denver residents pronounce these north Denver street names: Zuni, Pecos and Galapago?<\/strong> I know the first (Zoo-nigh).\u00a0 Not surprised to read BD’s answer of the rest (Pay-cus, Gala-paygo).<\/li>\n
  8. Know where \u201cPee-eblo\u201d is located? <\/strong>Not heard it pronounced that way.<\/li>\n
  9. Know people who pronounce \u201cBuena\u201d in Buena Vista as if it rhymed with either \u201cgrainy\u201d or \u201ctuna\u201d? <\/strong>No.<\/li>\n
  10. Still refer to Whole Foods as \u201cAlfalfa\u2019s\u201d?<\/strong> No. I tend to refer to it as “Whole Paycheck.”<\/li>\n
  11. Have seen trick-or-treaters soldiering through a Halloween snowstorm?<\/strong> Been tehre, escorted that. While we have had occasional clement Halloweens, it’s generally best to go for a costume that you can wear a parka over (or under).<\/li>\n
  12. Never confuse Empire\u2019s Hard Rock Cafe with the famous chain? <\/strong>Um … no clue.<\/li>\n
  13. Have comfortably worn shorts outdoors in December or January?<\/strong> Since we can get into pleasant weather in those months, it’s happened.\u00a0 And sandals.<\/li>\n
  14. Know which Colorado town competes with International Falls, Minn., for the title of \u201cIcebox of the Nation\u201d?<\/strong> No.<\/li>\n
  15. Automatically bring a fleece pullover or jacket on a day hike in the mountains, even when the temperature in Denver and Grand Junction is solidly in the 90s? <\/strong>At least a sweatshirt.<\/li>\n
  16. Watched a flick at Buena Vista\u2019s Comanche Drive-in or Monte Vista\u2019s Movie Manor?<\/strong> Nope, but I used to drive by the lamented Cinderella Drive-in for many years, thrilling to each “See you next season” marquee.<\/li>\n
  17. Know where alligators thrive in the San Luis Valley? <\/strong>Nope.<\/li>\n
  18. Made it through a meal at Casa Bonita? <\/strong>More than I care to remember.<\/li>\n
  19. Ran (or walked) the Bolder Boulder and have the T-shirt to prove it? <\/strong>Never did it myself, but familiar with the name.<\/li>\n
  20. Know what the Leadville Trail 100 is?<\/strong> Nope.<\/li>\n
  21. Extra credit if you know how many LT 100s must be completed to earn the belt buckle? <\/strong>Um, still nope.<\/li>\n
  22. Know the difference between the Front Range and the Western Slope?<\/strong> Um … yeah.\u00a0 I’d say that’s a “1 week” learning curve here.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Not surprisingly, the native-born (they do exist!) BD did better than the 15-year vet me. Ah, well.<\/p>\n
