They stopped learning about it in elementary school. They know the big Bible passages, but the rest is all on form, not theological function, let alone history, let alone knowledge of religions other than their own. That’s not necessarily a fault of religion (you get similar appalling results on non-religious topics in this country), but on the individuals involved, on our acceptance of ignorance as a culture, and on the folks who try to “teach” through sound bite and demagoguery.<\/li>\n
