  4. Raese’s conservatory plans approved — in Florida<\/a> – “We wish him the best with this new solarium.” I’m sure West Virginia voters will be impressed … if they choose to hear about it.<\/li>\n
  5. ‘This is not a time for compromise’<\/a> – The vast majority of Americans want the GOP, if they get in, to be willing to compromise and negotiate. The GOP leadership is equally clear (and have already demonstrated) that they have no interest in doing so. So will the American people actually give the GOP majorities in one or both chambers of Congress? And, if so, why?<\/li>\n
  6. ‘Evolving’ attitudes on marriage equality<\/a> – Actually, it’s refreshing to see any President say that he’s actually thinking about an issue, let alone considering changing his opinion.<\/li>\n
  7. AFA on Colorado Senate choices<\/a> – What’s particularly amusing is how the “Issues” are described (and how the candidate positions are parsed on them). Hmmmmm … I wonder which candidate the AFA supports …<\/li>\n
  8. The good ol’ days<\/a> – “For conservative activists who nod their heads when Boehner wistfully thinks back to the ’50s and ’60s, there’s a fundamental confusion over what that means — the era they liked is the one in which New Deal policies created ‘economic security and opportunity’ that were ‘widely shared,’ thanks in part to high marginal top rates and wages that nearly kept pace with the cost of living. If Boehner and his allies want to go back to ‘the America they grew up in,’ we can, but it’ll require a pretty sharp left-hand turn.”<\/li>\n
  9. Shining a light on McConnell’s short-term thinking<\/a> – It’s worth noting. A lot of folks in the center think a mixed Congress is good because it will force centrist thinking and compromise. But compromisine candidates, even ones with very conservative credentials, got purged from the GOP during the primaries. And the GOP leadership and candidates, almost to a man, are very clear that there will be NO compromise (especially if they win one or both chambers), and that they are perfectly happy to shut down Congress, the government, whatever, in order to win the White House in 2012. That’s what you’re voting for if you vote Republican this year.<\/li>\n
  10. ‘This is the world that Fox News has created’<\/a> – Why bother with actually knowing anything about a subject when you can be satisfied with knowing you’re ANGRY about it?<\/li>\n
  11. Annoying both sides of an equality debate simultaneously<\/a> – LGBT voter planning on “staying home on Election Day” are doing far worse than shooting themselves in the foot.<\/li>\n
  12. “Real Christians” Say Bullying Is Bad, But Being Gay Is Even Worse<\/a> – Actually, of the “several key concepts” from these “Authentic Christians” only one touches on bullying (“Violence against children is wrong”) … and then immediately segues into blaming “‘gay’ activists” for wanting to keep children from following Christ. Yeesh.<\/li>\n
  13. New Ralph Reed Ad Campaign Literally Declares “It’s Us Vs Them”<\/a> – At least they’re being honest about it. Well, honest about how they want their followers to see the conflict; the rest of the ad is crapola.<\/li>\n
  14. GOP Congressional Candidate Popaditch: Living On 21 Dollars A Week In Food Stamps Is \u2018Too Darn Comfortable\u2019<\/a> – “Are there no workhouses …?”<\/li>\n
  15. Ken Buck Can\u2019t Explain How Government \u2018Goes Too Far\u2019 In Separating Church And State<\/a> – Sure he can, and does, by giving a (dishonest? hyperbolic? mistaken?) wrong answer.<\/li>\n

  17. Take better photos of friends and family: Turn off your flash. – By Steven I. Weiss – Slate Magazine<\/a> – I almost always run my camera with flash off — a direct flash is the worst possible lighting in the world for a picture (and I’m not aware of any compact or mobile cameras that do an upwards “bounce” flash). This does mean that I end up with a lot of too-dark or blurry photos, but the ones I do get are far better than the blinded and washed-out stuff the flash usually produces.<\/li>\n
  18. ‘Caprica’ Is Cancelled by Syfy<\/a> – I’ve not been monitoring the show carefully, but it certainly seemed to have a devoted enough fan base that this is a surprise. Oh, well, all the more time for Syfy to carry more wrestling, or maybe another “Crocasquito!” original monster flick.<\/li>\n
  19. Oops We Lost Your Docs So You’re Going To Foreclosure<\/a> – Dear BofA (et al.): The banking industry exists based on trust of individuals that you operate by clear-cut rules, accurately, and trustworthily, and that our money and assets (represented solely by various forms of paper and electronic documents) are safe with you. By going for some short-term profit margins (“Must! Foreclose! More! Now!”), you are undermining public faith in the entire financial system, with impacts both to society and, specifically, to your industry that none of us can guess at but which will not be pleasant, especially for you. Now get your shit together and do something about this crap, even if it means a few tougher quarters.
